This 8-hour long, non-stop performance is inspired by the transgressive pupation life stage certain insects undergo as they grow. Particularly emphasizing the passage of time and endurance.
I started by sewing a base of linen over my legs and pelvic region to isolate the cold from the cement floor. I proceeded by binding a collage of fabrics over my body, like a pupal exoskeleton. Occasionally, I took pauses to feed on blueberries and birch sap.
Finally, I enclosed myself in a large cocoon made of canvas, which I stuffed with kapok and eucalyptus for warmth and comfort. I then sealed everything with yarn and Baby’s-breath flowers.
These relentless gestures highlight my long-durational performance practice. Here, sewing with needle and fiber until the actions reach a trance-like meditation on repetition and emotional metamorphosis.
