Volcanoes
Sand and gunpowder. Variable dimensions

Oraciones de Tres Madres (Prayers of Three Mothers) was conceived from prayers given to me by my mother, grandmother, and aunt, who raised me in Colombia. After relocating to the United States with my father, physical distance separated us, a rupture deepened by my grandmother’s death from Covid-19 in 2021. Oraciones celebrates spiritual devotion and the bonds sustained across absence, while reimagining communication through a requiem shaped by sound and the purifying, ephemeral qualities of fire.
The prayers were recorded in 2019, specifically as offerings of protection. During the performance, they are played on cassette tapes, mixed with natural soundscapes, as I ignite flames from gunpowder, accompanied by Marc Lochner on the bouzouki. The ceremony unfolds through light, shadow and a choreography of improvised movement that amplifies the collective emotional presence in the room.
