Basement Scene (2023 - 2024)
Performance, sound, installation
Collaboration with Ser Serpas
Bourse de Commerce - Pinault Collection, Paris, France
Live performance recording via NTS Radio
Basement Scene was presented as part of Ser Serpas’ solo exhibition at the Bourse de Commerce, combining her impromptu installations of found objects with a series of performative actions. Developed through a collaborative process that welcomed the performers’ input, the project resulted in two distinct performances in September 2023 and January 2024.
For the second event, I contributed a monologue by Isabelle Adjani in Andrzej Żuławski’s Possession (1981), invoking a shared lineage of horror cinema that informs both our practices. The recital evolved into a symphony of improvised vocals, unfolding in tandem with Serpas’ unpredictable DJ set and the volatile transformation of the installation. The performance dissolved into chaos as the set disintegrated beneath my layered wailing, howls, and chants.
